Abstract

Given a significant amount of group traffic in public safety incidents, multicast has the potential to outperform unicast in terms of precious spectrum savings and first responders’ experience. In this study and for both unicast and multicast, we explore components along the chain from initial first responders’ deploy locations to the resulting network performance and user experience, with considerations on Multiple-Inputs-Multiple-Outputs (MIMO) technologies and public safety incident coverage. We also identify and quantify major factors that contribute to the resulting first responders’ experience.
