Abstract

This presenation lays out a case, based on economic and technologic considerations, that the present technologies for temperature and pressure measurement are ripe for disruption. We argue that a better use of research funds is to identify and nuture disruptive technologies that can upend the field. Photonics is identified a potentially disruptive technology for temperature and pressure measurements. Basic working principles, preliminary results and long term vision of the photonics program are briefly discussed.
