Abstract

This chapter presents an approach/philosophy for data analysis which employs a variety of techniques (mostly graphical) to: maximize insight into a data set; uncover underlying structure; detect outliers and anomalies; test underlying assumptions; and develop parsimonious models. The chapter also includes many case studies that show how to check a dataset for underlying assumptions.
