Abstract
This article describes how librarians at the Research Library at the National Institute of Standards and Technology planned and conducted focus group interviews to assess the information needs of a specific segment of its customers, and how it put this information to use in operational and strategic planning. Out of the qualitative study came two new strategic plan objectives and several ideas currently being incorporated into the organization s marketing plan.
