Abstract
In celebration of National Metric Week (October 6-10, 2003), the NIST Research Library launched a new exhibit featuring important works on the history of the metric system that are part of the Library's Historical Book Collection. Works featured include the first published proposal for a decimal measurement system (1670), official laws relating to the adoption of the metric system by the first French Republic, and 19th century American works that document the metric debate in the United States.
