Abstract

This year, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), formerly the National Bureau of Standards (NBS), turned 100 years old. During that century, NBS/NIST measurement technology has done much to enable the business of fire safety. Today, there are new challenges and enormous opportunities for fire retardant additives. During our second century, NIST will continue to work with manufacturers and associa-tions in helping to meet the new technical challenges and to accelerate the acceptance of improved fire safety materials and systems.
