Abstract

A predictive method for estimating the zij parameter in the mixture model of Lemmon and Jacobsen [Int. J. Thermophysics 20:1629 (1999)] has been developed. Data for 76 binary pairs have been used in the development of this method, and these data are summarized. A wide variety of fluid parameters were examined in developing the predictive method. The critical temperature, critical pressure, acentric factor, and dipole moment were used in the final scheme. The values of zij range between - 106 and +20; a value of zero for zij corresponds to ideal mixing. This method is implemented in the NIST REFPROP database and should prove useful in the evaluation of new refrigerant blends.
