Abstract

Foresight and imagination are nothing new to libraries and information professionals. For the past decade we have been coping with and capitalizing on evolving technologies. In the development of new systems it s been challenging to define and carry forward a manual system s essence while leaving cumbersome traditional nonessentials behind. Our most useful electronic products have turned out to be much more than automated versions of old processes. Our organization has developed a model for a system that will combine an all-electronic manuscript submissions and approval system for authors, a database of agency publications, an archive of full-text documents, and a library online catalog. Crosswalk scripting will convert bibliographic information about published documents in the database to MARC records in the library catalog. We are currently working with information technology staff on system details.
