Abstract

This article reports and discusses briefly the preliminary results from the recent International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD)-National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) Survey.  The 1074 Survey respondents from seven societies within the bone health community ranked in priority order seven technical standards and measurement needs to improve the accuracy and precision of DXA bone mineral density measurements.  Standard Phantoms, defining regions of interest (ROI), and standard reference Databases all received median ranks of 3 and as a group are the top three most important action items.
