Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the Sixth Text REtrieval Conference (TREC-6) held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, November 19-21, 1997. TREC-6 is the latest in a series of workshops designed to foster research in text retrieval. The paper describes the tasks that were performed in TREC-6, summarizes the results of the main tasks, and reports on initial plans for TREC-7.
