Abstract

This paper discusses experimental investigations of the influence of real fires on the lateral load-carrying capacity of steel-sheathed cold-formed steel framed shear walls. The completed Phase 1 tests showed an unexpected and important example of structure-fire interaction and highlight the relevance of the gypsum for both the thermal and mechanical behaviour of these systems. A second phase of the study currently underway is outlined, with focus given to the test program, specimen design and fire load development.
