Abstract

An improved antenna gain extrapolation measurement is proposed. The improved method consists of a vector network analyzer, a pair of RF optical links, and a pair of waveguide mixers. We present a detailed description of the new extrapolation measurement setup, discuss the advantages and disadvantages, and validate the new setup by measuring the gain of an antenna previously measured with a traditional extrapolation setup. After presenting the comparison, we will discuss applications of this measurement system that extend beyond extrapolation gain measurements (e.g., spherical near- and far-field pattern measurements).
