Abstract
This paper summarizes the main changes to the Department of Energy's test procedure for residential dishwashers and presents the analysis of manufacturers test results using the new test procedure. The rest results, which showed a small increase in energy consumption when using the revised test procedure, are well above the minimum energy standard for most basic models. It is recommended that a standards rulemaking be undertaken to evaluate technological improvements made since 1991, the time of the last standards rulemaking, and adjust the minimum energy standard as appropriate.
