Entropy Scaling of Viscosity –- II: Predictive Scheme for Normal Alkanes

Abstract

In this work, entropy scaling as applied to normal alkanes is used to probe the physics of entropy scaling for fluids with internal degrees of freedom. This approach results in the identification of a universal transition in the behavior of the normal alkanes at point half way between the critical point and the triple point. For this family, sufficient data are available to consider the viscosity of the liquid phase at the triple point, highlighting the similarities among the normal alkanes. This universal correlation has no fluid-specific empirical parameters and is based on experimentally accessible parameters.
