Abstract

NIST provides technical support to the DOE in developing test procedures for a variety of residential appliances. As part of this process, DOE seeks representative consumer use data to establish test procedures that are representative of real world use. This report summarizes a data review that was conducted for dishwashers, clothes washers, and clothes dryers. A detailed list of data needs was created for each product, and the information was solicited through an appliance inquiry statement. NIST contacted 63 companies or organizations to determine the existence and availability of relevant data, several of whom responded by sharing data and/or completing the appliance inquiry statement. Details and analysis of the most notable responses, as well as other publicly available data, are reviewed in this paper. Conclusions and recommendations for obtaining representative data are presented.
