Abstract

LED technologies are advancing at a swift pace and solid-state lighting (SSL) products are already introduced to the market and expected to grow rapidly. There is an increasing interest and concern in the color rendering properties of white SSL products. Concerns have been raised that values of Color Rendering Index (CRI), Ra, do not agree with visual evaluation for white LED sources. TC1-62 investigated the problems of the CRI and concluded that it does not provide accurate evaluation for white LED sources, and thus a new metric is needed. As industrial standards and regulations are being developed, it is becoming urgent to develop this new metric. TC1-69 has been formed to do this task. The goal of this workshop is to discuss what form of new metric should be developed for color quality of general illumination sources to meet the industrial needs, and to provide input to the new TC.
