Abstract

We review the goals, accomplishments, and directions of the Society for Automotive Engineers (SAE) J1757 Vehicular Flat Panel Display Metrology Committee. The conditions for which a display must qualify for use in an automobile are much different than for office or household displays. Those conditions will be reviewed along with the present considerations for testing. Reflection measurements are a primary concern along with determining an efficiency metric useful for this industry. Problems in creating practical measurements will be discussed along with the pervading attitudes toward surround conditions.
