Abstract

For over forty years the International Center for Diffraction Data (ICDD) has maintained an effort to prepare high quality x-ray reference powder diffraction patterns and data for the Powder Diffraction File (PDF). Part of the ongoing effort of the Ceramics Subcommittee (one of the technical subcommittees of ICDD) is to enhance the Powder Diffraction File by assuring the relevance, quality and completeness of the present and future ceramic data. The current activity of this subcommittee was to organize the ceramic subfile into various minifiles according to the functions, properties or structures of the chemical compounds. Different task groups were set up to be responsible for various classes of material. The goal of the Engineering materials task group is to identify ceramics phases to be included in a separate subfile, to evaluate the quality of these patterns, and to identify missing patterns in order to fill the gap of the Powder Diffraction File. Recent activities of this task group are described.
