Abstract
We will begin by asking if the prevailing notion of what computer systems can achieve in biological image-processing may not be overly modest. This question seems to us fundamental, for such an underestimate might produce not only a limitation of objectives, but also a restriction of the class of problems considered amenable to computer processing.
