The Statistical Engineering Division (SED), within the Information Technology Laboratory, serves primarily as a research and consulting group working with the NIST scientific staff. Members of the Division engage in research in the areas of statistical graphics, reliability, linear models, time series, stochastic processes, modeling and experimental design, robust estimation procedures, computer-intensive methods, and applications in the information sciences. However, the Division is also very open to research proposals in other areas of statistics and probability.
NIST/NRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are available to U.S. citizens who have held a doctorate less than five years. Appointments are for two years with an annual stipend and additional money for professional travel, books, and expenses. The deadlines for applications for appointments at NIST are February 1 and August 1 each year. Successful applicants typically can begin work within six months of notification of a successful application.
Applicants should contact the Statistical Engineering Division several months before the application deadline and anticipate preparing a research proposal, in cooperation with a senior Division staff member, for submission to the NRC.
More detailed information about specific opportunities can be found on the NRC's web pages on their Research Associateship Programs, including information on opportunities at NIST. Information can also be obtained directly from NIST/SED.
