Michael Haines is an NRC Postdoctoral Researcher working towards understanding microstructural developments of steel alloys under Additive Manufacturing (AM). His experience with AM dates back to 2015 and has involved numerous different classes of materials including Steels, Nickel, Titanium, and Copper alloys along with different AM processing routes including electron beam and laser powder bed fusion, and direct energy deposition. His current interests are centered around understanding the microstructural evolution of steels through the utilization of in situ synchrotron characterization techniques and develop the fundamental understanding of solidification pathways and phase transformation kinetics of steels under AM processing conditions.
