Katie’s research focuses on the structure and morphology of soft matter systems, with particular emphasis on polymers at interfaces, in confinement, and in nanocomposites. She uses advanced characterization techniques, including resonant soft X-ray scattering (RSoXS), to probe nanoscale composition, molecular orientation, and interfacial organization in polymer thin films and nanocomposites. In parallel, she works to advance RSoXS as a quantitative metrology technique, improving its sensitivity and capability for measuring subtle molecular orientation in complex materials. Her Ph.D. research focused on how polymer chains organize and pack at interfaces to influence glassy polymer properties. More broadly, Katie's work aims to establish quantitative relationships between processing, structure, and properties in soft matter systems.
