Joseph Long is a Workforce and Engagement Analyst at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Office of Advanced Manufacturing (OAM), which also serves as the Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office for Manufacturing USA. Joseph received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University and a B.S. in Bioengineering from Oregon State University.
Prior to joining OAM, Joseph served as a Legislative Fellow sponsored by the Biophysical Society in the U.S. Senate, on a portfolio covering economic policy, advanced manufacturing, U.S. competitiveness, technology innovation, and STEM workforce. During graduate school, Joseph promoted science innovation and bringing more scientists and engineers into policy. He worked as a Science Policy Scholar-in-Residence with the Washington State Academy of Sciences to advance the technology and workforce of the state’s manufacturing and energy sectors.
At OAM, Joseph works with federal agency staff to plan, develop, and implement analyses, products, and strategies for education and workforce development initiatives for Manufacturing USA and participating U.S. government agencies. Joseph also provides technical assistance for initiatives supporting strategic engagement and coordination with government and public stakeholders.
