Consisting of a 1 m long piece of 0.5 mm diameter platinum wire, SRM 1967a meets the requirements for a thermoelectric reference material for temperatures from 196 °C up to approximately 1700 °C. We have tested the thermoelectric emf of four SRM 1967a cuts versus four cuts from the prior reference standard SRM 1967 (Pt-67) lot. The tests indicate that SRM 1967a differs from SRM 1967 by less than 0.7 µV throughout its temperature range. The thermoelectric homogeneities of both lots are comparable and quite small, resulting in a standard thermoelectric material that replicates the average of the Pt-67 response to within 0.25 µV up to 250 °C and rising to 0.7 µV at 1700 °C, all at 95 % confidence.
