Abstract

Increasingly, weighing and measuring device manufacturers choose the audit trail as the form of security for their equipment. Features that control the accuracy of measurements (metrological), or can be selected to make a device function properly for a particular commercial use, require sealing or some other form of security. The security selected by manufacturers for weights and measures features must be adequate and work properly throughout the life of the device. Therefore, it is important for officials and others in the weights and measures community to become familiar with how to access and use audit trail information.
