Abstract

The Standards Information Program (SIP) contributes to the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST's) goals for improving U.S. competitiveness in domestic and world markets and strengthening and advancing the development and use of the nation's science and technology by providing up-to-date information on standards and conformity assessment programs.Major SIP activities include:Operating the National Center for Standards and Certification Information (NCSCI). The Center provides information on U.S., foreign, and international voluntary standards; government regulations; and rules of conformity assessment for non-agricultural products.NCSCI responds to domestic and foreign requests for U.S. standards-related information land foreign standards and technical regulations.SIP serves as the U.S. inquiry point under the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) of the World Trade Organization (WTO), operates the WTO and EC hotlines, and serves as the NAFTA Inquiry Point and is a the U.S. member of the ISO Network of Standards Information Centers.
