Chromatic dispersion measurement error caused by source amplified spontaneous emission

Abstract
We demonstrate experimentally and theoretically the degrading effect of noise from source amplified spontaneous emission on measurements of chromatic dispersion using the modulation phase-shift method. We show that dramatic performance improvements can be realized simply by using a narrow-band tracking filter.
