Abstract
This paper provides an overview of the explosive growth of outsourcing in the electronics industry, which has created a 30% growth rate in the Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) sector. Increased outsourcing has highlighted the need for Factory Information Systems to adapt to inter-company integration throughout the supply chain. The National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative has both roadmapping and research efforts geared at addressing these new demands.
