Abstract

The Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP) is being developed under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 184 (SC4). A principle feature of the STEP architecture is that it has two distinct data specifications, integrated resources (standardized representations of generic product data) and application protocols (standardized representations of product data for a particular application domain). This document describes the objectives and deliverables of application interpretation, the process of specializing the baseline constructs from the integrated resources to satisfy requirements of the application domain within an application interpreted model (AIM). Details on the use of the EXPRESS language for documenting the AIM is also provided.
