This paper describes results of recent work by several groups at the National Bureau of Standards as they relate to quality control in automated manufacturing. These include software error correction of coordinate measuring machines and machine tools in stand-alone operation and integrated with robots into workstations as elements of NBS' Automated Manufacturing Research Facility.
