Abstract
NIST has developed a new instrument to measure cylindrical standards including thread wires and plain plug gages. The instrument uses a laser interferometer system which is coupled with an air bearing linear motion slide and precise contact geometry to obtain absolute measurements of cylindrical artifacts. This instrument eliminates the need for master artifacts and increases the speed and accuracy of the measurements. This paper discusses the uncertainty and error budget of the current model and the basic metrology principles used in the design. We will also discuss future modifications and improvements of this model.Proceedings Title
