Abstract
This paper discusses modeling requirements to support self-integrating manufacturing systems. Business process re-engineering, as it is currently performed, is driven by the same information as may drive the re-engineering process of future self-integrating systems. Unfortunately, today much of this information remains unexpressed. On-going research into enterprise representation may provide a foundation for self-integrating systems. However, the modeling solution must make apparent mismatch of goals, function, semantics and technology between the existing and future business processes and information infrastructure.
