The Moisture Content of the Air in Equilibrium with Certain Desiccants

Abstract

The water vapor content of the air in equilibrium with various chemical desiccants at 28 C 1 C has been determined by using an advanced micro-sensor and measuring its electrical capacitance at a frequency of 20 kHz. The microsensor was calibrated against the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Two-Pressure Humidity Generator. The desiccants tested and the water vapor concentration in milligrams per kilogram of dry air are calcium chloride, 15; sodium hydroxide, 89 and zinc chloride, 446. Their respective relative expanded uncertainties with k=2 in percent of the concentration value are 20 %, 13 % and 9 %.
