Abstract
The crystallization behavior of thin polypropylene films with and without 4-biphenyl carboxylic acid as a nucleating agent was investigated using high-throughput methodology in conjunction with optical microscopy. The properties of this nucleating agent result in crystallite formation at 10 C to 15 C higher than neat crystallization temperatures and crystallite sizes up to a factor of 10 smaller than neat polypropylene upon annealing. 4-biphenyl carboxylic acid has a profound effect on the initial morphology of the solution-cast films and subsequent morphology of annealed films.
