Abstract
The history, modes of production, and the kinetics and product formation of the reactions of unsaturated C2 hydrocarbon radicals with other free radicals, atoms and stable inorganic and organic molecules in the gas phase are reviewed and evaluated. The species that are discussed include the ethynyl (C2H), vinylidene (H2CC), and vinyl (C2H3) radicals. These species are of major importance in the chemistry of combustion systems where the species may play key roles in the formation of soot as well as in the atmospheres of the outer planets.
