Abstract
It has been claimed by Khare, Sharma and Tomar (1999 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 32, 3147) that the binary-encounter dipole (BED) model and its simpler version, binary-encounter Bethe (BEB) model, for electron impact ionization of atoms and molecules published earlier by the present authors (1994 Phys. Rev. A 50, 3954) (a) contained an error in the derivation of one of our basic formulas, and (b) our value of a parameter associated with the Born approximation differs from the know value by almost two orders of magnitude. We show that these claims and some other statements by Khare et al. originate from a misunderstanding of the approximations we have made.
