Abstract
A detector-based calibration facility has been developed at the National Institute ofStandards and Technology (NIST) to calibrate irradiance meters with expanded uncertainties(k=2) of 0.15%. A reference tristimulus calorimeter and a photometer have been developedwhere the low responsivity uncertainty of the photometric and tristimulus channels dominatesthe combined uncertainty of the photometric and color measurements. The newly calibratedphotometers can reduce the uncertainty in the NIST photometric scales by approximately 40%while the calorimeter represents a new NIST detector-based color scale. A novel, spectrallytunable, solid-state source was developed to transfer the high accuracy illuminanceresponsivity and tristimulus color scales from the reference photometer and tristimuluscolorimeter/photometer to working standard and field photometers and tristimulus meters. Bysetting the transfer source distribution to approximate a particular target distribution, thephotometric and color scales can be transferred to field meters with minimal increase inuncertainties.
