Abstract
A theory of test electron and electron temperature relaxation in quantum wires due to acoustical and optical phonon scattering is presented. The intra- and inter-subband scattering rates are represented as an average of rate kernels weighted by electron wave functions across a wire. By exploiting these expressions and appropriate electron subband wave functions, the scattering rates in quantum wires under different environments are calculated. In particular, the scattering rates in zero and quantizing magnetic fields are discussed.Citation
