A portable integrating sphere source has been developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of a National Aeronautics and Space Administration s (NASA s) program to validate radiance scales of sources at Earth Observing System (EOS) calibration facilities and to establish traceability to national standards maintained at NIST. The source has been built and its stability evaluated in the visible wavelength region. It was subsequently shipped to a field calibration facility and back to NIST. Upon its return, the source radiance was again measured and compared to its radiance prior to the field work. In this paper, details of the operating characteristics and the radiance stability of the new portable field source are given.
