Infrared Spectral Responsivity Scale of NIST

Abstract

An ambient temperature Infrared Spectral Responsivity Comparator Facility has been developed at NIST to calibrate infrared detectorsand radiometers for spectral and spatial responsivities. Test detectors are substituted for working- or transfer-standard radiometers in theoutput beam of a monochromator. InSb working standard radiometers have been developed and characterized to hold the spectralresponsivity scale between 2 m and 5.4 m. The InSb working standard radiometers were calibrated against the transfer standardcryogenic bolometer that is tied to the primary standard cryogenic radiometer of NIST. The cryogenic bolometer holds the infraredpower responsivity scale between 2 m and 20 m. The combined standard uncertainty (k=1) of the spectral power responsivity scale, asrealized on the cryogenic bolometer, is +/- 0.25 %. The combined standard uncertainty (k=1) of the InSb spectral radiant power responsivityscale is 1.0 %. The InSb spectral irradiance responsivity was determined from its own spectral power responsivity by multiplying thepower responsivity with the measured area of the aperture in front of the InSb detector. The combined standard uncertainty (k=1) of theinfrared spectral irradiance responsivity scale is 1.02 %.
