The Nature and Origin of Tribochemistry

Abstract
The origin of tribochemistry is from the rubbing of surfaces together. The precise nature of the chemical reactions and the driving force behind the reactions are not known except for a few simple chemical systems. In boundary lubrication, it is difficult to measure precisely the minute amount of complex surface chemical reaction products in a rubbing system lubricated by a complex mixture of lubricant and additives. Recent observation of electrons, charge particles from mechanical scratching of surfaces invites speculation that these emission can directly link to the cause of tribochemistry. This study aims to examine the tribochemistry due to mechanical surface disruption and hopefully will expand our knowledge in this important area of science.Citation
