Abstract

MatML is an extensible markup language for the automatic exchange of materials property data. In development since October 1999, MatML presently exists as a working draft, and is soon to be released as a proposed recommendation. The present article provides a brief history, description, and future materials data exchange environment in which MatML will serve all parties with an interest in the promulgation of materials property data.
