Elastic Modulus by Resonance of Rectangular Prisms: Corrections for Edge Treatments

Abstract
Elastic Modulus is commonly measured by vibrating prismatic specimens at their natural frequency. The elastic modulus is calculated from the frequency, mass and physical dimension of the beam. The calculations assume that the bar is perfectly rectangular. This note studies the effect of edge chamfers on the calculation and furnishes a method to simply correct for the chamfers.
