Abstract
This manuscript summarizes the proceedings and conclusions of a workshop organized to address issues associated with particle size and size distribution characterization of nanaopowders. Presentations made during this workshop highlighted the strengths and limitations of techniques currently used for creating stable dispersions of nanoparticles and measuring the size and size distributions of powders in the ananosize range. Some emerging and alternative techniques with potential for use in size measurement in this range were highlighted, some of the future needs for procedural and instrumental techniques and standards were identified. The discussions resulted in a wish-list of these needs and identified some of the technical barriers to be surmounted in order to enable more accurate, reproducible and rapid size distribution characterization of nanoparticles.
