Abstract

In this paper we propose a method that aids in the calculation of strain in blood vessels. The calculation of strain is used in the medical community to relate heart disease with factors such as diabetes and calcification of blood vessels due to high Cholesterol levels. Traditional methods of calculating the strain involves photography, film development, large-scale photograph development, and digitization using a flatbed tablet. The turnaround time for this process is in the order of days along with a large amount of labor involved in processing each image. We use image analysis and processing techniques to provide a solution in calculating strain efficiently and consistently. A JAVA-based application is developed to allow semi-automatic operation in calculating these lengths for a cross-platform operation.
