Abstract
A series of (Ba1-x,Srx)yTiO2+y films with a wide range of y and x < 0.07 was grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. The composition of the films was determined by wavelength dispersive x-ray spectrometry. Transmission spectra were measured and analyzed to determine the optical constants of the films, including the Urbach pseudogap, which was found to be correlated with y. Assuming that the films with 0.34 < y < 1 were composed of crystalline (Ba,Sr)TiO3 and an amorphous second phase, an effective medium model was used to estimate the volume fraction of amorphous material in the films from the transmission spectra.
