Abstract
The NIST Combinatorial Methods Center (NCMC) has adapted the Johnson Kendall, and Roberts (JKR) adhesive contact test for the development of a high-throughput adhesion measurement platform. This technique utilizes an array of hemispherical lenses to conduct several adhesive contact tests in a single experiment. Currently, only displacement and contact area are readily measured during each experiment. The inability to measure load during the loading/unloading cycle may lead to greater error in the determination of adhesion energy. In this presentation, we compare the strain energy release rate calculated from multi-lens adhesion measurements (displacement) to single lens measurements (load) for a several different model systems. We will quantify the error involved when using a multi-lens array to measure adhesion energy for these systems.
