Abstract
This paper describes a new project that is part of a program initiated by the Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop infrastructural tools that facilitate information-based manufacturing. This new project is an attempt to develop a virtual machining environment by electronically representing machine tool performance models and implementing them in software simulation systems to predict the actual form and dimensions of machined parts. These simulated machined parts will be used in virtual inspection scenarios to predict the outcome of the inspection process with associated uncertainties as well as to evaluate inspection plans to be used for inspecting actual parts during manufacturing.Proceedings Title
