Abstract
The Chevon notch test method was analyzed to determine whether straight through crack assumption or slice models fitted finite elements better. New polynomial expressions for the stress intensity shape factor Y were devised for the four specimen/fixture configurations used in ASTM standard PS 070-97. Experimental data was produced on a variety of ceramics and compared to data from SEPB and SCF methods where possible.
