Abstract

Using a phage display approach we have identified a peptide sequence SVSVGMKPSPRP that selectively recognizes HA over amorphous calcium phosphate. Exploitation of the recognition properties of such peptidic species to specific polymorphs deposited during mineralization processes and in hydroxyapatite (HA)-derivatized composites may be useful in future studies for monitoring the progression of mineralization and potentially cell differentiation in situ as opposed to destructive endpoint measurements.
